Privacy Policy

Last updated:

FokusPad (“FokusPad,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) is a note-taking application designed for students. This Privacy Policy explains what information may be collected when you use FokusPad, how that information is used, and the choices available to you.

This policy applies to the FokusPad website at fokuspad.com and the FokusPad application at app.fokuspad.com.

1. Information You Provide to Us

Account information

You can use parts of FokusPad without creating an account.

If you create an account, we may collect information such as:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Authentication information necessary to create and secure your account
  • Profile information you choose to provide, such as a profile image

If you sign in using a supported third-party authentication provider, such as Google, we may receive basic account information from that provider, such as your name, email address, and profile information, according to the permissions you approve.

Notes and other content

When you use FokusPad while signed in, you may create and store content including:

  • Notes
  • Note titles
  • Notebooks
  • Study material
  • Images uploaded to notes
  • Gallery images
  • Information created from or added through student templates
  • Other content you choose to enter into the application

This content is stored so FokusPad can provide its note-taking, organization, synchronization, and related features.

You are responsible for the information you choose to include in your notes.

2. Using FokusPad Without an Account

FokusPad supports guest use without requiring you to create an account.

When you use FokusPad as a guest, your notes and related application data may be stored locally in your browser using browser storage technologies such as IndexedDB.

Guest content is intended to remain on the device and browser where it was created unless you later use functionality that transfers or synchronizes that content.

Because guest data is stored locally, clearing browser data, using private browsing modes, changing devices or browsers, or removing application storage may result in loss of that content.

Images added while using guest mode may also be stored locally as part of your note data.

3. How We Use Information

We use information collected through FokusPad to:

  • Provide and operate the FokusPad website and application
  • Create and manage user accounts
  • Save and synchronize notes and notebooks for signed-in users
  • Provide image upload and storage functionality
  • Enable note-sharing features
  • Maintain account and application security
  • Diagnose technical problems and improve reliability
  • Understand how the website and application are used
  • Improve FokusPad's features and user experience
  • Respond to support requests, feedback, and inquiries
  • Prevent abuse, misuse, or unauthorized access

We do not need access to the contents of your notes for advertising purposes.

4. Authentication and Account Services

FokusPad uses Supabase to provide backend services including authentication, database functionality, and storage.

When you create or use a FokusPad account, information necessary to authenticate you and provide account functionality may be processed through Supabase.

FokusPad may also offer authentication through third-party providers such as Google. When you choose third-party sign-in, that provider processes your information according to its own privacy policies, and FokusPad receives the account information necessary to authenticate you.

We do not receive your Google account password.

5. Cloud Storage and Database

For signed-in users, FokusPad uses Supabase infrastructure to store and manage application data.

This may include:

  • Account-related information
  • Notes
  • Notebooks
  • Note organization data
  • Sharing-related data
  • Uploaded images
  • Other information required to provide FokusPad features

Access controls and database security policies are used to restrict access to user data according to the application's authorization rules.

6. Images and File Uploads

Signed-in users may upload images for use inside their notes.

FokusPad uses cloud storage infrastructure provided through Supabase for supported image uploads.

Some FokusPad storage resources may use publicly accessible URLs where required by the current application architecture. This means you should not upload highly sensitive, confidential, or private images to features that generate publicly accessible file URLs.

Guest image data may instead be stored locally in the browser as part of locally stored note content.

We may impose restrictions on supported file types and file sizes for security and reliability.

7. Sharing Notes

FokusPad includes functionality that may allow you to share a note using a generated sharing link.

When you intentionally share a note, anyone who obtains a valid sharing link may be able to view the shared content.

Shared content may include text, images, and other information contained in that note.

You should review a note before sharing it and avoid including information you do not want recipients to see.

Do not publicly distribute a sharing link if you want the note to remain limited to specific people.

8. Analytics

FokusPad may use Google Analytics to understand how visitors interact with our website and application.

Analytics information may include information such as:

  • Pages viewed
  • Approximate usage and interaction information
  • Device and browser information
  • Referring pages or traffic sources
  • General geographic information derived from network information
  • Other technical and usage information provided by the analytics service

We use this information to understand usage patterns, diagnose issues, and improve FokusPad.

Google processes analytics information according to its own terms and privacy practices.

9. Cookies and Similar Technologies

FokusPad and services used by FokusPad may use cookies, local storage, IndexedDB, or similar browser technologies.

These technologies may be used for purposes including:

  • Authentication and session management
  • Maintaining application state
  • Saving guest notes locally
  • Remembering application information
  • Security
  • Analytics
  • Application functionality and performance

Some of these technologies are necessary for FokusPad to function correctly.

10. How We Share Information

We do not sell your personal information.

We may share or process information with service providers when necessary to operate FokusPad. These providers may include:

  • Supabase, for authentication, database, and storage infrastructure
  • Google, when you choose Google authentication
  • Google Analytics, for website and application analytics
  • Vercel, for hosting and delivery of FokusPad web services

These providers may process information according to their respective terms and privacy policies.

We may also disclose information when reasonably necessary to:

  • Comply with applicable law or a valid legal request
  • Protect the security or integrity of FokusPad
  • Investigate fraud, abuse, or security incidents
  • Protect the rights and safety of users or others

11. Data Security

We use reasonable technical and organizational measures intended to protect information handled by FokusPad.

These measures include application authentication, authorization controls, database access policies, and other security mechanisms used by our infrastructure.

However, no internet-based service, database, or storage system can guarantee absolute security.

Users should use a strong password, protect access to their accounts and devices, and avoid storing highly sensitive information in FokusPad when inappropriate.

12. Data Retention

We retain account and application information for as long as reasonably necessary to provide FokusPad, maintain the service, comply with applicable obligations, resolve disputes, and protect the security of the service.

Guest data stored locally in your browser remains subject to your browser and device storage settings.

Retention periods may vary depending on the type of information and the reason it is processed.

13. Your Choices and Rights

Depending on where you live, privacy laws may provide rights relating to your personal information.

These may include the right to request:

  • Access to personal information associated with you
  • Correction of inaccurate personal information
  • Deletion of certain personal information
  • Information about how your personal information is processed

The availability and scope of these rights depend on applicable law.

For privacy-related requests, contact us at:

contact@fokuspad.com

We may need to verify that you are the account holder before fulfilling certain requests.

14. Account and Data Deletion

If account deletion functionality is available within FokusPad, you may use the provided account controls.

You may also contact us at contact@fokuspad.com with a privacy or deletion request.

Deletion may be subject to limited exceptions where information must be retained for legitimate security, legal, fraud-prevention, or operational reasons.

Guest notes stored locally in your browser can generally be removed by deleting the relevant notes or clearing the site's browser storage.

15. Children's Privacy

FokusPad is designed for students, but it is not specifically directed to children under 13.

We do not knowingly seek to collect personal information from children under 13 in a manner that requires parental consent under applicable law.

If you believe a child has provided personal information to FokusPad inappropriately, please contact us at contact@fokuspad.com so the matter can be reviewed.

16. International Users

FokusPad is available over the internet and may be accessed from different countries.

Our service providers may process or store information in countries other than the country where you live. Data protection laws in those countries may differ from those in your jurisdiction.

Where required, applicable safeguards may be used by our service providers for international processing and transfers.

17. Third-Party Services and Links

FokusPad may contain links to third-party websites or interact with third-party services.

We are not responsible for the privacy practices of third-party websites or services. Their handling of information is governed by their own privacy policies and terms.

We encourage you to review those policies when using third-party services.

18. Changes to This Privacy Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy as FokusPad develops, features change, service providers change, or legal requirements evolve.

When we make changes, we will update the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.

Material changes may also be communicated through the website or application when appropriate.
